BLOG #2: HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST BLOGGING PLATFORM

So, I've already created my VERY FIRST BLOG POST ... now what???

First of all, I need to stick to my PLAN ... I know that I want to share my blogging journey, and I know that I want to share an answer to a question in each blog post.

I have wanted to start a blog for quite some time now, and with all the thousands of hours (okay, maybe not thousands, but definitely LOTS) that I've spent researching how to start a blog, one would think that I'd have it down to a science ... however, this is not the case.

Once someone has committed to creating a blog, then it becomes all about blog content ... oh, and don't forget, you have to make the decision where to HOST the blog. Should be easy right??? Let's just say ... IT'S NOT!!!

At this stage of my blogging journey, I have a pretty good idea of what I want to write about, and I've obviously found the platform to host on, but let me tell you, the latter was not an easy choice to make … let me tell you why ...

First of all, the very first decision you must make is ... who is the audience that you want to create this blog for??? For me, this was easy ... I wanted to design a blog around new business owners/entrepreneurs who want a resource for finding the answers to their business startup questions. I wanted the blog to be very personal and intentional, so people could identify with me, while it also providing accurate and detailed information on topics that are hotspots for frustration ...

Next, I want you to know that there are about one million hosting platforms to choose from (once again, that's a tiny bit of an exaggeration). You need to decide if you want your blog to be included on your business website or an entirely separate site. Then you need to decide if you want to host it on a free platform, or if you want a self-hosted website which would involve some financial investment. Oh my goodness ... so many choices!!!

As a business owner who is running a successful bookkeeping business, but has decided to make a huge pivot, I realized that I was going to have to step entirely out of my established "comfort zone", and venture into the Online Research Zone ... wow, was I ever in for a rude awakening lol.

I knew that "anything and everything ONLINE" was the way the world was heading ... and that was how I wanted to pivot my business, but I honestly had no idea how pivoting to an online business was going to involve so much research!!! It was no longer about simply running my business … now I had to figure out Platforms/Software Programs/Marketing and everything in between.

It was supposed to be easy ... all I had to do was figure out "how to" ... well, "how to" turned into hundreds of hours of mind-bending research, and I can't begin to tell you how many times I just wanted to QUIT!!! It was too much, and there were times when I actually felt like I was going backwards ... I would think that I had found "the answer", only to find a completely different answer on the exact same topic in the next YouTube Video I watched.

I understood that anyone who wants to start a new business will ALWAYS encounter hours of figuring out the essentials, but I just wished that there was a “familiar” place to start looking ... some sort of online business startup roadmap.

That was my "light bulb moment" ... I had an amazing potential audience, and I was going to be the "familiar place" to go to when that audience was looking for assistance.

I am going to make this disclaimer right now ... I am NOT claiming that I will have the EXACT answer, but I will sure as heck try to provide my audience with as much relevant information as I can (for many different topics), and as many available options when necessary.

Most importantly, my mission is to present the information in a consistent format, because I truly believe that consistency builds trust. I want my blog audience to know that they can trust in the fact that the information I provide has been researched like crazy ... and is written with the intent of making your online business building journey as easy as possible :)

It is my full intention to help other "starters" at the beginning of their Business Development Journey. I want to save my audience the frustration of spending all their waking hours simply trying to figure out HOW TO do things, so they can spend your time DOING those things.

If you can't DO "the things", you can't move ahead, and this is where I want to assist you.
